The Doodlebug Chronicles

November 2006

    Just a quick post -- Arden's 15 month well baby visit was this morning.

    She is the picture of health and is verbally advanced, as she now strings 2 words together (bye mommy, hi lulu, bye lulu, all done, belly button; and a few others).

    She is currently 33 inches (97th % in height!) and 24 lbs 9 oz (75th % in weight!) and just great.

    She had 3 shots, which were not at all fun, but she recovered quickly. We finally made it to daycare, she clung to me for about one second before spotting the legos and dashing off to play with her friends.

    I have pictures to post from last week's Thanksgiving festivities and a wedding this past weekend, and if I can wrangle the computer away from Dora will do so tonight.

    As another holiday nears, we find that Arden is sick, again. It is becoming quite clear that she is allergic to holidays. Christmas, Easter...and now Thanksgiving. We are thankful this year for ear tubes, which have made it possible for her to have a cold that is not accompanied by a raging double ear infection and several trips to the doctor for yet another round of antibiotics.

    Tomorrow she turns 15 months old. It's hard to believe.

    I have just a couple of new pictures that I will post tonight, and I'm sure we'll take lots on Thanksgiving since Nonno will be here!

    What, no kudos in the guestbook for actually uploading new pictures??! ;-)

    When last I wrote I believe I talked about Arden's transition to the toddler room. We're two weeks in and she is doing fantastic.

    When I arrived at daycare on Friday, I noticed that there weren't many kids at all. With it being Veteran's Day many folks had kept their kids home. Because of that, they were combining the 3 infant rooms into one. Arden was only scheduled to be in toddlers until 1, but I asked that if they had the space, and if she seemed to have adjusted, to please leave here in toddlers all day. Well they did and what a grand time she had. She was covered in paint, she was working on another beautiful picture when I arrived, she just had a blast. She's sleeping well there (on a cot, at that!!), and eating and doing much better with her move from the bottle onto sippy cups. (She tried to outlast us for nearly a month, but with the dedication of her great teacher Jocelyn, we've gotten her to accept the sippy as an okay form of a milk vehicle.)

    I'm hopeful that because she has done so well, we can move her full time toddlerland residency up to this week, rather than next. We shall see what they say.

    On Saturday we took advantage of the gorgeous weather and visited a friend's horse barn. Arden loved it. She just loved it. Sigh. We always say "nay" when we point to a horse. She ran up and down the barn aisles saying "hi nay nay, hi nay nay" -- a phrase she put together all on her own. She'd stop underneath the head of a horse (one peaking out from its stall) and raise up her hands, signaling me, her servant, to lift her so that she might plant a kiss on the nose of this creature. She clapped her hands with utter joy at the sight of them. And much to my chagrin, she did not break out in hives, or develop a horrible asthmatic attack when coming in such close contact with these tremendously expensive animals.

    I will upload a picture tonight of the aftermath of the barn.

    As you can see, there are a few more pictures posted...that's all I could get before the site crashed, and it's just now returned. Will work on more uploading tonight!!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Arden began her transition to toddlers this week. So far it's gone very well. Tuesday she was a little unsure, but as soon as they started playing with pumpkin guts, she knew she was in the right place. She also gets to spend an hour outside every morning now, and both days has returned to her regular infant room filthy and exhausted.
    They say some kids have a very tough time and don't end up spending their full transition time in the new class. Arden, rather, has been there for 3 hours rather than the normal 2. She's adjusting very well :-).
    We also seem to have turned a corner with the separation anxiety, which is fabulous. She still has her moments, but today she watched me leave and was absolutely fine. Hey, she was getting a bagel and that was much more important to attend to than my mere departure.
    We had a nice Halloween, with a trip around Charlie's neighborhood in a wagon, and then a stroll through our neighborhood with a couple of trick or treat stops. Arden had a blast and was very good at walking beside me and holding my hand. She doesn't usually approve of the whole hand holding thing, but no fuss was made on that night. We had between 150 and 200 kids trick or treat at our door. Thankfully we'd bought enough candy! It does promptly end in our neighborhood at 7pm though. Arden was wiped out from her time in toddlers and then all the walking, and was down for the count by 7:30. She somehow managed to sleep through some reveling that was going on across the street.
    And that's what's happening in these parts!
    I vow to update pictures tonight. If for no other reason than to get Arden's aunt off my back ;-). We've just located where Arden hid the camera cord, and so once again can upload pictures to the computer.
    Stay Tuned.
