Another day, another dollar.
Dora is 9 weeks, 4 days today. Time really is going more quickly than I'd expected. D is in the process of getting her official referral (gotta love insurance requirements) from the doctor so that we can get in with the OB. Our OB is the partner of one of D's coworkers, so that's an added bonus. She's also has her MD from Harvard, not too shabby. I'm quite glad we have her as an option, because it will be nice to be seen as the other mother, without question or having to "teach" them not to ignore my presence. I feel so strongly about being viewed just as much of a parent as Dora is. Since, after all, the Doodlebug wouldn't exist without me (for sooo many reasons).
I should get back to work since I came in late thanks to the bleepin' snow.
Ciao,

Shelli I just saw your post about the Bugaboo. THANK YOU :-). Now convince Dora, will you??? She said the only thing she will spend that much $$ on is a saddle for the kid. Sigh.
Someone suggested that's what we should ask for at our "Gay-by" shower. It's a very smart point.
Glad to hear you've driven one at it's fabulous. I've heard good things and they just look some comfy and versatile. So talk to Dora, will ya??
:-)

What nasty weather we are having in MA.
We had an ultrasound on Monday (9 weeks 1 day) and everything looked great. Baby was measuring perfectly on time, looks like a little gummi bear/gingerbread man with its arm and leg buds. Was moving all around and sucking its thumb. A genius already!
Heartrate was 157, D is convinced (I think) that it's a boy now because the heartrate isn't high. That's an old wives tale, but only time will tell. As Auntie Annette put it "if that were true, than Christine (cousin) would be a boy."
We tried to stop by The Right Start on Monday, since they are going out of business and sell lots of great stuff and it was all marked down. Well they were closed down by the time we got there, which was unfortunate. My dream of the Bugaboo stroller went right out the window, thought I could get one for cheap there!
I've got my eye on the Peg Perego Pliko in metallica (i.e. red and black) at the moment. The carseat snaps into it and it's not nearly as bulky as some of the other travel systems. Baby Bargains (fabulous book, you must have it if you are pg) says the the PPs are the best quality you can get right now, and hey, they are more affordable than the Bugaboo. So it's like I'm bargain shopping, right dear?
Only another 9-11 weeks before we find out what we are having. Grandma would like to know now, but alas, the ultrasounds aren't THAT good yet!
She hasn't yet not knowing the sex curb her shopping yet though, Doodlebug already has a snowsuit for next winter. Always important at 9 weeks gestation to have a snowsuit. ;-) But it's sweet, haven't seen her this excited about anything since I've known her.
Well I should do some work before we skirt out of here to go home and shovel. Again.
Calgon take me away.
Erin

Doodlebug is still doing a number on its Mama vessel.
Morning sickness is such a vicious cycle. Having it can be so frustrating, but then if one day you feel less sick, you worry that things aren't okay.
Only a few days until the next ultrasound. I can't wait to see the little creature again.
I've done well at the not shopping part of all of this. Although there is a major baby store going out of business, and everything is steeply discounted. If the snow storm isn't too bad this weekend, I do believe I'll be making a little trip. Never too early to plan, is it?

9 million baby books tell you what and what not to eat, how important eating is....
And all I can do is look at food like it is the root of all evil right now.
Alright I'm off to go play in some plain yogurt so I feel like I'm eating and Doodlebug won't have 14 fingers and 20 toes.

8 Weeks
The little doodlebug is making DP very sick today. Nothing seems to be helping her feel better.
Only one more week until we see the little creature again. I can't wait!
Showed my mother in law the Bugaboo Frog tonight...the stroller I would just love to have. DP said that the only thing we are spending $750 for the baby is its first saddle. Someone please talk some sense into her!

So I've been panicking lately that nothing is happening and we're going to get bad news at our next ultrasound (10 days away!)
I drive DP nuts (right dear?)
I noticed this morning that my jeans really are tighter. I figure this means I must be able to find the ol' uterus.
Amazingly enough I did.... I always check but haven't been sure I've found it...but there it was. Feels like I swallowed a tangerine or something whole. Funky.
Okay I'm off to go eat some carrots so doodlebug won't be born with 6 eyes.......

7 weeks and 2 days.
Apparently this is the week that doodlebug has chosen to make its presence really known. DP has been suffering from bouts of nausea morning, noon, and night. Things are especially bad in the car, and I refuse to believe that it's my driving alone that is causing that!

So like my DP, Erin has written... there really is a doodlebug in there afterall. It was quite a moment, I'm flat on a table, joking with the ultrasound tech but terrified beyond belief.... and instantly the tech says "there is your baby!"
Erin gets all teary...I said OH MY GOD and just stared at it. Part of me wondered how that little blob that looked like a piece of chewed gum was going to make it into a baby....the other part just couldn't believe Erin and I were really going to be parents.
Now I panic about each cramp, twinge, symptom or lack there of that I have.
This is going to be a hell of a long wait.

We have a heartbeat!!!
Doodlebug is measuring perfectly at 6 weeks, 3 days and the little heart was going strong. The ultrasound tech found it right away.
I have to say, we have the best ultrasound tech through our RE's office. She's a wonderful British woman who did a scan or two for us last year when we were monitoring every cycle. She loves our story and told us to come back in a few weeks and have another ultrasound just to see how the babe's grown. She's fabulous, I can't say enough about her.
We're halfway through the first trimester and things are looking good :-).

Thanks for all the kind words for our doodlebug.
Today is the big day-- the first ultrasound. Keep your fingers (and eyes and toes) crossed that all is okay!
We'll update here this afternoon.

Welcome one and all to the chronicles of the one and only (well, we hope there is only one in there) Doodlebug.
With just 33 weeks and 6 days to go, it seemed necessary to start a journal to document this journey.
Our first ultrasound is in two days. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the doodlebug is safe and sound in the burrows of DP's belly.
So please, stay tuned as we prepare for this babe's arrival. Be aware that I am a compulsive shopper for the baby already. Stroller, carseat, crib already picked out. Though I'm not a boy scout, I am always prepared.
Erin
PS: At some point there will be pictures, but we're in a digital camera debate right now, so please be patient!
